Style Icon | Sofia Guellaty

We had style icons for the past year from different professions who were quite influential and famous for their ability to be effortlessly stylish like Lapo Elkann, Rihanna, Blake Lively and Nick Wooster. Now since we only choose people who we think make an impact in the fashion world globally for their style this time we decided on Sofia who's probably one of the few Arabs who's style gets snapped by street photographers then published onto very prestigious magazines & blogs around the globe! My favorite one was a great photo on The Sartorialist blog by the man known for his style eye Scott Schuman last year, so I think it's time we celebrated her and wrote about our fashionable princess already, don't you think? I believe that Sofia Guellaty really helps break the global stereotypes about women's fashion sense around here and she spreads a message that is loud & clear "Arabs are cool, hip, chic, lively and TREND setters". Here are some questions she answered for us quickly and hopefully now our readers will get to know more about the girl who fascinates photographers around the world.. We'd like to congratulate her on her new possession as Senior Editor for Style.com Arabia, always knew this would happen! xxx
-Describe your personal style..
It's all about mixing and layering. I break an elegant outfit with a casual note or a casual outfit with a big chunky bright accessory. I love my accessories like any good Arab girl would.
-Which fashion week is your favorite and why?
I love Milan because the city is small and the food delicious. It is a shopping heaven. Also Italian style is way more interesting than NY which is too casual, London which is too grungy and Paris which is too sophisticated. Milan is playful, they don't shy away from prints, and embellishments of all sorts. I love how Italian men and women dress in general.
-Who are your fashion icon/icons...
Diane Vreeland for sure, I also grew up watching Sex and the City so maybe a bit of Carrie Bradshaw too.
-Name your most favorite fashion brands...
Azzedine Alaia, Isabel Marrant and Fendi right now.
-Name 3 shops you buy from religiously..
I am a big online shopping afficionada, so everything I buy I get it either from Net-a-Porter or the Outnet for great bargains. Symphony is the most fashion forward store in Dubai, I like Montaigne Market in Paris, Barney's in NYC and Corso Como in Milan.
-Name 3 fashion items you can't live without..
A black pair of jeans, my men's watches, my big statements necklaces and James Perse tshirts.
